Keeping Your Employees Safe for Workplace Eye Wellness Month
Each year, approximately 25,000 workers seek emergency medical treatment for a workplace eye injury. Eye protection and accident prevention are key to keeping yourself and your employees safe.
AWARENESS
The Workplace Eye Wellness Month aims to reduce these risks by providing information and resources to help employees protect their eyes.
SAFETY
Nonprofit Prevent Blindness urges the following to keep your eyes safe:
• Measure your computer screen 20 to 26 inches away from your eyes, and a little bit below eye level.
• Change your lighting to lower glare and harsh reflections. Glare filters over your digital screens can also help.
• Take ‘timeouts’ from screen time, ideally every 20 minutes.
• Choose screens that can tilt and swivel. A keyboard that you can adjust is also helpful.
• Computer glasses with yellow-tinted lenses that block blue light can help ease digital eye strain by increasing contrast.
• Anti-reflective lenses reduce glare and increase contrast and also block blue light from digital devices.
• Invest in safety eyewear protection, like goggles, face shields, welding helmets, and safety glasses.
